Fellowships & Internships

Tools to Get You Where You Are Going.

At NCSA, we offer a number of internships and fellowship opportunities for those looking to accelerate their careers.

Whether you’re a student searching for a great summer internship or a faculty member looking to explore new interdepartmental collaborations, we’ll help you get where you want to go. And give you the tools to get there.

NCSA nurtures innovative concepts and provides a variety of opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students, faculty and postdoctoral researchers.

NCSA Fellows

An opportunity for faculty and researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to catalyze and develop long-term collaborations between Illinois departments, research units, and NCSA. This competitive program provides seed funding for new projects that include NCSA staff as integral contributors to the project. Proposers can leverage already existing collaborations with NCSA staff or develop new collaborations through the fellowship program. In either case, the proposed research needs to be a new one.

Fiddler Innovation Endowment

The Fiddler Innovation Endowment by Jerry Fiddler and Melissa Alden supports the University of Illinois’ Emerging Digital Research and Education in Arts Media Institute based at NCSA . eDream awards exceptional, creative, and interdisciplinary students and faculty who propose significant projects that address cultural and global challenges using art, science and technology.

Students Pushing Innovation

The SPIN internship program was launched to provide University of Illinois students with the opportunity to apply their skills to real challenges in high-performance computing, data analysis and visualization, cybersecurity, and other areas of interest to NCSA.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates

In this National Science Foundation-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program undergrad students from across the country spend 10 weeks at NCSA during the summer working on interdisciplinary research projects. The REU program is part of NCSA’s commitment to fostering the diversification and education of the nation’s advanced digital workforce.

NCSA International Research Program

This internship program is an NCSA summer research training experience open to highly-motivated international undergrad students who are currently enrolled in any major and in any year of studies in U.S. universities or foreign students enrolled in universities in their home countries.

Post-Doctoral Research Program

Postdoctoral researchers are an important component of the NCSA ecosystem, joining a lively community of professional staff, faculty and students. Postdoctoral researchers contribute to research, development and innovation across NCSA’s research and education thematic areas, laboratories and facilities, technical units, funded projects and programs, and industrial partnerships.

Cyberinfrastructure Professional Intern Program

The Cyberinfrastructure Professional Intern Program is NCSA’s internship program for those interested in pursuing a career in cyberinfrastructure and is designed to address the shortage of a workforce with the specialized skills needed to support advanced CI operations.
